Mental health states of the refugee women in the 10-year visiting process: an assessment in context of the sociocultural adaptation

Abstract Background In this study, it is aimed to determine the relationship between sociocultural adaptation levels and mental states of women who fled their countries due war settled in Turkey. context, study was carried out with descriptive, cross-sectional, relational design. 948 refugee living Turkey were interviewed. Personal information form, Brief Symptom Inventory, Sociocultural Adaptation Scale used interviews. analysis data, SPSS package program used, descriptive statistics made linear regression. Results As a result determined that 47% illiterate, 70% had poor Turkish speaking level, 51% could not establish good relations people. The mean age 28.78 ± 7.01, anxiety score 24.33 7.86, depression 23.95 8.1, negative self-concept 23.85 8.05, somatization 14.99 5.77, hostility 13.63 4.29, 53.15 16.94. Conclusion It level low. addition, has been experience psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, somatization, self-perception, intensely, these are more common low level.
